I know it’s a naïve question, but when did it become okay for politicians to lie?
I am a once bitten liberal. I can remember feeling genuinely gutted when Nick Clegg went back on his promise about student loans.
Nowadays, I don’t have a lot of faith in what politicians say or promise. Brexit. Trump. Fake news. Except when fake news isn’t actually fake (see @realDonaldTrump).
And now a general election. I am stunned and pessimistic and yet still hopeful. The Dutch are still moderate. A centrist is holding at evens in the French election. UKIP are more interested in getting one over on Douglas Carswell than taking over the world. Maybe this can be a good thing.
