Falmouth University
Brief
There’s a lot to consider when you move to live in a new place as a student. However, the accommodation team at FXPLUS felt that the open day presentations they were giving didn’t appear to be engaging new and potential students as much as they had hoped. Calling for creative film ideas to show alongside their speeches, they chose our pitch for an ‘A-Z’ film that would imaginatively and compellingly give information about the nuts and bolts – the range of accommodation types, locations and related issues such as catering, adapted rooms and security – and also the beautiful local area and laid-back seaside lifestyle.
The Plot
Presenting the accommodation team with an initial moodboard and following their feedback, we refined a fresh visual style and then storyboarded each ‘letter’ so that we could ensure an efficient shoot. We worked closely with the team at FXPLUS, who were active in organising the actors and locations so the film reflected the variety of accommodation options available in Falmouth and Penryn, the campus services available to students, and of the student population. Our film-makers Sam, Simon and Clare spent three and a half days capturing the range of material needed – from interiors to landscapes to nightlife – and used Tremough’s photography studio to create stop-motion film and staged shots using props and actors.
What happened next?
The shoot was fantastic, and close co-ordination and constructive feedback throughout the project meant that the film was delivered on time and within budget. FXPLUS now have a slick, fun, and most importantly informative video that has received positive feedback during their open day presentations and online.
